The harbors of Ísafjörður

Ísafjörður er stærsti bærinn á Vestfjörðum og miðstöð verslunar og þjónustu á svæðinu. Ísafjarðarhöfn iðar af lífi allt árið um kring en þar eru bæði trillur og fiskiskip þjónustuð, auk þess sem höfnin tekur á móti fjölda skemmtiferðaskipa yfir sumarmánuðina.

From Ísafjarðarhöfn you can walk straight into town. Here you will find cozy shops, cafes and an information center for excursions that will guide you through the magnificent nature of the Westfjords.

The harbor here is the heart of the village, where fishing has long been the mainstay. Here you can experience an authentic Icelandic fishing village with all its tradition and spirit. Be sure to enjoy the freshest seafood you have ever tasted! Suðureyri is also known for its cozy outdoor swimming pool and hot tubs – the perfect way to relax after sightseeing.

South Island

The harbor here is the center of the town, and you will notice a calm and charming atmosphere. Þingeyri has a rich history and if you are interested in Vikings, then this is something for you! In the harbor you can see the Viking ship Véstein, which is a replica of a Viking ship. In the village you will also find the Old Forge, which is a fascinating museum, and of course it is a must to hike up Sandafell to enjoy the spectacular views over the fjord.

Thingeyri

This port has a long and rich history as a trading post, but was also important for whaling in its time. You can enjoy a stroll around the town, visit the old bookstore, which is one of the oldest original ones in Iceland, or check out the small and cozy cafes by the harbor. Flateyri is surrounded by magnificent nature and is a great place to go hiking or even rent a kayak.
